Wet Dog Mat®
The Wet Dog Mat® is the perfect solution for dogs and cats who are a bit leaky and wake up wet in the mornings. If your pet is experiencing urine incontinence, you should ensure they are as clean and dry as possible. By using waterproof bedding, your pet will remain sat or laying in the urine, causing skin irritation and potentially burns. The Wet Dog Mat® is both absorbent and waterproof, meaning that your pet will remain dry. The Wet Dog Mat® comprises a polar fleece top and bottom and absorbent and waterproof layers in the middle. The absorbent middle consists of five functional layers. The top layer is made from a highly technical fabric that allows liquids to quickly pass through while remaining dry and comfortable for your pet. The liquid is then locked away in the middle layers, and the waterproof and breathable polyurethane backing prevents the liquid from penetrating anything below. The Wet Dog Mat® is fully washable and reusable, designed for long-term use. In fact, the rate of absorbency actually increases after the first few washings, making it a cost-effective and durable choice for your pet's needs. |
The Wet Dog Mat® is made specially to go over your existing dog bed, or on the sofa, or even on your own bed if your dog sleeps with you. The Wet Dog Mat® is also suitable to be used in the car after hydrotherapy sessions to help dry your dog quicker on the way home or even after a very wet walk, where the mat will draw the water away from your dog, keeping them dry and warm on the way home.
When buying your Wet Dog Mat®, don't forget to include your fabric choices. You must choose two polar fleece fabrics from the very top of the fabrics page, one for the top and one for the bottom of the Wet Dog Mat®. For easy use, most customers choose a pattern for the top and plain colour for the bottom, making it quicker to see which way up to use it. All of the photos on this page have been sent by our customers and the fabrics in them may no longer be available. Please visit the fabrics page to see what fabrics we currently have available.
All items are handmade and can take up to 2 weeks. If you are ordering a Wet Dog Mat® for an ill pet, please email me after ordering so I can prioritise your order. |
More Information on the Wet Dog Mat®
The Wet Dog Mat® was designed primarily to manage overnight urine incontinence. As the dog sleeps on the mat and leaks urine, the weight of the dog will push the urine down through the top fabric layer, into the absorbent layers. The absorbent layers will lock the urine in, ensuring that it does not go back up towards the dog nor down into anything underneath the mat. Once the urine is locked in, the top fabric layer will start to dry naturally in the air. The technology of the Wet Dog Mat® means that the dog is not laying in urine overnight. Instead, they can dry off quickly as the urine is locked safely away from her skin. |
Looking after your Wet Dog Mat®
Your Wet Dog Mat® must be washed once or twice before use to ensure that the absorbency layer has been activated. The mat's absorbency will increase over the first few washes, starting to decrease after 300 washes. The Wet Dog Mat® can be washed at 30 degrees with powder or liquid. You should not use 2-in-1 powders or liquids or any type of softener. The Wet Dog Mat® can be tumble-dried on a cool setting or hung up to dry. |
What size should you buy?
The size of the Wet Dog Mat® is particularly important if your dog is heavily urine incontinent. The mats absorb the following amount of liquid: Small - up to 1 litre Medium - up to 2 litres Large - up to 3 litres Extra Large - up to 4 litres To ensure that you order the correct size, you should aim for your dog to lay towards the middle of the Wet Dog Mat® and not on the edge. If your dog leaks large quantities, the mat needs to work hard to absorb and trap the urine; there is a risk of urine leaking over the side if your dog is using the wrong size. For example, a heavily incontinent Labrador using a small Wet Dog Mat would cause the urine to leak over the sides as the dog is unlikely to be laying or sitting in the middle of the mat. |
